Principal Director’s Profile
Dr Sanjeev P. Sahni is the Principal Director of the Jindal Institute of Behavioural Sciences (JIBS) at the Jindal Global University, Sonipat. He is also the Director for “Center for Innovative Leadership and Change”, “Center for Victimology and Psychological studies” and Advisor to the Vice Chancellor at the Jindal Global University.
Prior to his joining O.P. Jindal Global University, Dr. Sahni was Head – Education with Jindal Steel & Power Limited (JSPL), part of USD 15 billion O.P. Jindal Group. He holds a PhD in Organizational Behaviour and a Post Graduate degree in Psychology with specialization in Industrial Psychology from Punjab University, Chandigarh.
He has an extensive industry/government background of 27 years of experience in the field of human resources and behavioural management. In the Group, he was responsible for all matters relating to human resources including Talent Management, Development, Retention, Education, and Learning.
He has dedicated 14 years as a scientist in Ministry of Human Resource Development (HRD) and Sports Authority of India (SAI), where he conducted Biofeedback Training, Autogenic and progressive relaxation, and other psychodynamic assessments to foster and enhance the performance of sportsmen.
In his last eight years in JSPL, he has served in various capacities such as Head – Corporate HR, Head – Strategic HR, and has been instrumental in revamping HR practices in the organization. He is well versed on global human resources policies, systems and processes and has been responsible in leading and steering the human resources function during the growth phase of Jindal Steel and Power Limited. He believes that while retaining focus on staff development, the human resources should provide pro-active leadership to meet changing global business challenges. Under his leadership and guidance, JSPL has won various awards in HR like RASBIC “HR Leadership Award”, SAIL HR Award for “Excellence in Human Resource Management”. JSPL was also rated amongst the top 20 “Best Companies to Work for in India” by Business Today and Mercer.
After successfully leading the HR functions of the organization for four years, in 2010 he was entrusted with another challenging role of Head – Education. He was managing various educational institutes run by JSPL, which includes O.P. Jindal Global University (OPJGU), Jindal Institute of Technology (OPJIT), Jindal Institute of Power Technology (JIPT), four Community Colleges of Technology and Skills (OPJCCTS), three Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs), Medical College, Physiotherapy courses, and ten schools. Dr. Sahni also worked as Co-Project Director of the Montgomery College, India initiative, “Transforming Boundaries funded by US State Department and USIEF”.
His contribution across the globe has been cosmic. He has worked as a research scientist at several universities like University of Houston, Texas, University of Illinois, Chicago to name a few. With a perfect blend of academics and industry exposure, he has been invited by several institutes in over 30 countries. He has also served as a secretary to Indian Association of Sports Medicine and Sports Psychology Association of India.
He has authored, co-authored, edited and reviewed many books and research papers such as A Handbook of Sports Psychology, Perceptual Organization of Criminals, Performance Enhancement of Sportsmen, Stress Management etc. He has delivered lectures and keynote addresses at various institutes in India and abroad, and has published numerous research papers in various national and international journals of repute. He is also awarded with fellowship from Indian Association of Sports Medicine, Sports Psychology Association of India, and Indian Council of Medical Research.
Dr. Sahni is one of the few Indian psychologists to have dispensed his immense knowledge towards the development of society and nation.
